Sintered stone

Ceramic worktop for the kitchen and outdoors — from 233 € / m²

Sintered stone is pressed from natural minerals into a non-porous slab that takes a hot pan, a knife and sunlight without fading. That is why the same series can continue from the kitchen onto a covered terrace. The thin, hard slab is machined with diamond blades in our own factory.

Hot pan straight on the worktop

The resin-free surface is not damaged by a hot pan — no trivets needed.

Colour withstands the sun

UV light does not fade the shade, so ceramic is the safest material for a covered outdoor kitchen.

A slim 12 mm look

An architectural, light line — the slab can also be laid over an old worktop in a renovation.

Five strong manufacturers

Dekton, Laminam, Marazzi, Nuovo Corso and Atlas Plan — marble, concrete and metal looks.

The most durable surface

What does sintered stone mean in practice?

The raw materials of ceramic are sand, feldspar, clay and mineral pigments, which are sintered under high pressure and heat into a uniform slab with no pores or resin. The result is a surface unaffected by stains, acids and even strong detergents, and which a knife does not scratch in normal use. To be honest: the edges and corners are sensitive to a sharp impact, so a cast-iron pot is set down on the worktop, not dropped. You can weigh up the strengths of the materials at your leisure in the guide choose the right worktop.

There are four main lines of looks: Dekton’s and Atlas Plan’s marble imitations, an even concrete look, patinated metal shades and stone surfaces reminiscent of granite — also from the manufacturers Laminam, Marazzi and Nuovo Corso. A large, thin and hard slab is the most demanding worktop material to machine, so the cutting order, corner radii and transport support are worked out in our factory in Estonia before the slab leaves for Finland. The same team laser-measures and installs, so responsibility does not change hands along the way.

Properties of a ceramic worktop

Heat and UV light

Hot pots and pans can be set straight down on the surface, and sunlight does not change the shade even over the years. That is why ceramic is the only material we recommend without reservation for a covered outdoor kitchen.

Hygiene and cleanliness

The non-porous surface does not absorb water or grease, and it also tolerates strong cleaning agents. It is never sealed — water and a mild detergent are enough for everyday cleaning.

Look and thickness

The collections range from calacatta and statuario imitations to travertine, concrete and deep black. The standard 12 mm thickness gives a pared-back line, and a glued front edge adds a more solid look when needed.

Applications

Worktops, islands with tops and side panels, splashbacks, bathrooms and outdoor kitchens. The thin slab also adapts to cabinet doors and to installation over an old worktop.

Frequently asked questions

What affects the price of a ceramic worktop?

The price is determined by the slab series, the shape and area of the worktop, the amount of edge work, the cut-outs and the installation labour. Cutting sintered stone wears down diamond blades and takes more machine time than other materials, and a glued front edge adds handwork. The fixed quote is made after measuring — the factors are itemised on the page stone worktop prices.

Does a ceramic worktop need maintenance?

Hardly at all: the surface is wiped with water and a mild detergent, and when needed it withstands even stronger agents without damage. No sealing treatments are ever needed, and turmeric, wine or oil leave no mark on the surface. We recommend a chopping board to spare your knife edge — you will find the collected instructions on the page care and cleaning.

How long does delivery of a ceramic worktop take?

Delivery and installation in Finland — 14 working days from drawing approval. Ceramic is not fitted on site, so all cut-outs and dimensions are locked in at laser measuring before cutting. Installation of an outdoor kitchen is timed according to the weather, and the installation date is agreed with you in advance.

How does a ceramic worktop differ from quartz?

Ceramic is thinner, withstands a hot pan directly on the surface and keeps its colour in the sun — which is why it also works outdoors. Quartz is a thicker indoor kitchen material, more impact-resistant at the edges and warmer to the touch. You will find a comparison between the materials in the guide choose the right worktop.

Does a ceramic surface scratch?

Not in normal use — the sintered surface is harder than steel, so a knife leaves no mark on it. It is not completely scratch-proof, however: a material harder than the surface, such as a diamond or the rough ceramic base of a dish, can leave a mark, and on a polished surface marks show up more easily in certain light than on a matt one.
