Harder than granite

Quartzite is one of the hardest kitchen worktop stones — everyday scratches and knocks are no threat.

The look of marble, the durability of stone

Light, dramatically veined surfaces without marble’s sensitivity to acids and scratches.

Every slab is unique

Natural stone is chosen from a full-size slab in the showroom — you get exactly the pattern you see.

Heat resistant

As a natural stone, quartzite tolerates hot pans considerably better than composites.

What quartzite is

A quartzite worktop is natural stone — not the same as quartz composite

The names are often mixed up: a quartz worktop is a factory-made composite, whereas quartzite is a quarried natural stone formed from sandstone under great pressure and heat over millions of years. The result is a stone that is harder than granite but often looks like marble — which is why quartzite has become a favourite of architects and kitchen designers for statement projects.

The best-known quartzite is the beige Taj Mahal, whose soft pattern suits both modern and classic kitchens. Popular light stones are White Macaubas and Madreperola, among the warm tones Kalahari, and for something more unusual there are the blue Ocean Blue and Blue Roma. You can see the full range with prices below — and in our showroom you always choose the stone from a full-size slab, not a small sample piece.

As a natural stone, quartzite needs sealing from time to time — we explain care honestly in our care instructions. In return you get a surface that hot pans and sharp knives will not trouble.

Why choose a quartzite worktop

Durability

In hardness quartzite beats granite — it is practically the hardest material a kitchen worktop is made from.

Appearance

Dramatic veining and depth that a composite cannot reproduce. Every worktop is one of a kind.

Heat resistance

Natural stone tolerates heat clearly better than resin-bound composites.

Value

A quartzite worktop is an investment: it lifts the look of the kitchen and the value of the home just as marble does — without marble’s risks.

Frequently asked questions

What is quartzite?

Quartzite is a natural stone formed from sandstone under great pressure and heat. It is even harder than granite, and many quartzites have a marble-like veining — which is why it is a popular choice when you want the look of marble and the durability of natural stone in one worktop. Quartzite is not the same as quartz composite (a factory-made quartz worktop).

What is the difference between a quartzite worktop and a quartz worktop?

Quartzite is a quarried natural stone, a quartz worktop is a factory-made composite. Quartzite is harder and tolerates heat better but needs sealing from time to time — the composite, on the other hand, is completely non-porous and needs no treatment.

Is Taj Mahal a quartzite?

Yes — Taj Mahal is the world’s best-known quartzite. Its beige, softly veined surface suits almost any kitchen, and it is part of our stock range.

Can a quartzite worktop take hot pans?

Like natural stone, it copes clearly better than composites. We still recommend a trivet — a sudden thermal shock is not good for any stone.

How do you care for a quartzite worktop?

Day to day, wiping with a pH-neutral detergent is enough. As a natural stone, quartzite is sealed from time to time — our installer advises on the right interval and product at installation.

How much does a quartzite worktop cost?

Stock stones start from 220 €/m², and the best-known stones such as Taj Mahal are in the premium class. You get a fixed all-inclusive quote for your measurements within 24 hours — measuring, delivery and installation included.
