Maintenace and cleaning
If you take care of your stone slab, it can stay beautiful for years. If you wipe it with a damp cloth and mild detergent, it is enough for daily maintenance. On this page, we have summarized how to best care for the stone you choose.
GRANITE
Granite is a hard stone and therefore not particularly sensitive. Having said that, in order not to expose the stone to unnecessary wear and tear, you should avoid using corrosive acids and various types of chemicals. In the event of a spill, it is fine to use a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Dry as soon as possible because the longer the liquid/spill remains on the worktop, the greater the risk of a stain.
You should be especially careful with light and polished stone surfaces. Do not use steel wool and strong cleaning agents. If, after all, you happen to get a stain, it is fine to use cleaning agents specially intended for natural stones. A lighter granite slab should also be impregnated once a year as it improves the durability of the slab.
Although granite is a very hard and durable material that resists scratches and high temperatures well, we recommend that you use coasters for hot pots and pans and cutting boards when cooking. In this way, the granite retains its nice shiny surface for a long time.
MARBLE
Marble is a relatively soft and porous stone which, in comparison with e.g. granite requires a little more care. Due to its porous surface, it absorbs liquids and grease more easily and is also more sensitive to scratches. Just as with the granite, it is important to quickly wipe up any spillage so that it does not have time to be absorbed by the stone.
Wipe clean with a damp cloth, and if necessary, you can also use a mild detergent. Try to avoid exposing the marble to chemicals and corrosive substances. Also, be careful with tea, coffee, soft drinks, wine, oils and fruits with a high acid content.
For daily maintenance, we recommend products that are specially designed for natural stone. Avoid acidic and bleaching agents and steel wool on your worktop.
Depending on how much your counter surface is used, a marble top should be surface treated with an impregnation agent 1-2 times a year.
Always use heating mats and cutting boards if you have a marble worktop in your kitchen.
QUARTZ
Quartz is the material that has the absolute highest resistance to physical stress and does not need to be treated in any special way. The quartz does not absorb liquids and is thus a very easy-to-maintain and hygienic material.
Clean your quartz disc with a damp cloth and, if necessary, a mild detergent. Although quartz is durable, it is not completely heat resistant. Quartz, which consists of stone flour and glue, can react to high temperatures. Be careful around the narrower parts of the countertop, near the sink or stove, as it cracks more easily there when exposed to heat.
CERAMICS
Ceramics are very durable and require minimal maintenance as they withstand heat, scratches and food spills. You can put hot pots and pans away without worrying about them getting marks, it does not damage the surface or the color of the worktop.
It is enough to wipe with a damp cloth every day and the worktop will stay in good condition. Mild detergent works well when needed. Because ceramic discs are very rigid, they can crack if subjected to very strong blows or shocks.
GENERAL ABOUT CLEANING COUNTERSTOPS
We recommend that you always use a cleaning agent suitable for your worktop and that you read the user and safety instructions when using specific agents on your stone.
We offer TENAX quality agent for stone cleaning which is a very good agent that cleans without damaging your stone. Should the disc get severe stains and damage, you can contact us as we also offer post-treatment.
We also want to emphasize that even though stone slabs are very durable, they can crack if they are subjected to hard blows. In general, they should not be exposed to too much pressure and heavy weights, especially around sinks and stoves, where the board is usually narrower.
