What should you consider with a stone windowsill?
With a windowsill the dimensions and edges are what count. We measure the depth from the frame to the face of the inner wall, the width between the reveals and how far the sill projects in front of the wall. At the same time we agree the edge profile, the treatment of the sides and whether the sill is set into the reveals or has corner pieces at the sides. Small decisions show in the result more than you would think, so we go through them with you at the measurement. Several windows are always measured one by one. This keeps the shade and dimensions consistent.
A windowsill is often above a radiator, so heat resistance should be considered. Quartz withstands normal heating well, but it is not the most heat-resistant material, so hot items should not be placed directly on the surface. Granite and ceramic withstand heat and the sun's UV light considerably better, which shows in south-facing windows. Marble is beautiful but more sensitive to acids and to marks from plant pots. When you look at samples, we tell you what suits your window. The choice also depends on the rest of the interior.

Dimensions taken for every window separately
Few window openings are exactly alike, so we measure each one separately and machine the sills to their own dimensions. The pieces are marked, so the right sill goes into the right window.
Edges and corners finished
The front edge is polished to the chosen profile and the visible sides are finished the same way. Corner pieces and side profiles are made at the factory, so no gaps are left at the wall.
Same stone as the worktop
Windowsills can be cut from the same slab batch as the kitchen worktop or the bathroom vanity top. The shade and pattern continue from room to room when you order everything at once.
Withstands radiator heat
Stone does not warp or crack in radiator heat like wood or a painted board. Granite and ceramic withstand heat and the sun's UV light especially well.

An even shade and a dense surface that wipes clean easily. Withstands normal radiator heat, but hot items should not be put straight down on the sill.

Withstands heat, sunlight and knocks. A good choice for a south-facing window and for a spot where plants are kept on the sill.
Marble
Lively veining that suits an old house and a light interior. More sensitive to acids, so watering marks are wiped away and the surface is sealed.
Ceramic
Withstands heat, UV light and scratches. A thin 12 mm slab suits a narrow sill and a setting where a restrained look is wanted.

From measurement to installation
Measurement
We measure every window opening separately: depth from the frame to the face of the wall, width between the reveals and the projection forwards. We agree the edge profile and the treatment of the sides. The sills are marked by room.
Production at our own factory
The sills are cut and polished on CNC machines at our factory in Estonia. The front edge is profiled, the visible ends are finished and any corner pieces are made from the same slab. All dimensions are checked before packing.
Delivery
Delivery and installation in Finland — 14 working days from drawing approval. The sills arrive marked and protected, and we agree the installation day so that painting work is not still under way.
Installation
We install the sills in place, level the heights and seal the junctions with the frame and the wall. We check the result together with you and leave care instructions for the stone surface.

How quickly are stone windowsills ready?

If the renovation is under way, we agree the measurement for the stage when the frames and walls are in place. One contact person tells you the schedule and handles communication. That way the delivery fits the rhythm of the renovation.

Which thickness should I choose, 20 or 30 mm?
For a narrow sill 20 mm is usually enough; it looks light and is easier to install. 30 mm gives a more massive look and suits a deep window opening or an old house with thick walls. Ceramic is also available as a thin 12 mm sill. We show you the options and suggest the one that suits your window.
Can windowsills be replaced without a major renovation?
Yes. We usually replace the sills in a single visit: the old sill is removed, the base is levelled and the new stone sill is installed in place. The junctions with the wall and frame are sealed, so the need to touch up the paintwork stays small. At the measurement we tell you what the work means for your windows and whether a painter's finishing is needed. We take the old sills away if required.
