Marble is calcareous natural stone, and that is why it reacts to acids: lemon, wine, vinegar and many detergents can leave a dull mark on the surface. Some of our customers want exactly this patina, some do not. We go through it with samples at the measurement, and if a carefree surface matters more than genuine stone, we suggest a ceramic slab with a marble look.

When marble is chosen, you choose the slab yourself. We hold 100+ stone materials in stock, and marbles are viewed as full slabs, because the veining decides the result. We mark the cutting lines on the slab so that the most striking vein lands on the island top and the joints fall in calm parts of the pattern. Machining is done on CNC machines at our factory in Tallinn, the edge profile is finished by hand and the surface is sealed before transport. The same team measures with a laser in Finland and installs, and no retailer’s margin is added to the price.

Which marble is right for you?

Carrara is the best known: a light grey base and soft, scattered veining that suits both classic and pared-back kitchens. Calacatta is whiter, and its veins are thicker and sparser — more striking and more prized than Carrara. Nero Marquina is deep black with a sharp white vein running through it; it works in bathrooms and fireplace surrounds where light furniture needs a counterweight. Green marbles and serpentines bring dark green with white veining, and their surface is often the most durable of the marbles.

The surface finish is a more important choice than is often thought. Polished marble clearly shows the dull marks caused by acid. A honed, i.e. matt, surface is already dull, so patina blends into it less noticeably — that is why we recommend a honed surface for kitchens and vanity tops. We go through both with samples at the measurement.

Marble in the kitchen, bathroom and elsewhere

A bathroom vanity top is marble’s most natural place: water does not harm a sealed surface, and acids are rare. In the kitchen, marble works as an island top and baking surface — the cool surface keeps dough workable. Fireplace surrounds, window seats and indoor stairs are durable uses, because no cooking happens there. What makes up the price of a marble worktop?

The price depends on the type of stone and its availability, the slab thickness, the dimensions of the worktop, the edge profile and the amount of installation work. Common marbles like Carrara are more moderate than Calacatta and rare names. A hand-finished edge profile, an undermounted sink and pattern matching at the joints add more labour hours than the square metres alone. We give a fixed quote after the measurement, once the slab and cutting lines are chosen — straight from our factory with no intermediaries.

Care and durability in everyday life

Marble is kept in good condition in three ways: sealing at installation and renewing it regularly, a pH-neutral detergent, and wiping up spills immediately. Lemon juice, wine and vinegar are wiped away straight away; sealing slows absorption but does not prevent the dull mark etched by acid. A chopping board and trivet are part of the routine. How long is the lead time for marble?

Delivery and installation in Finland — 14 working days from drawing approval. The schedule includes measurement, machining at the factory, transport and installation, all handled by the same team. If you want a rare marble that is not in our stock, we tell you its lead time separately before you order.

Can I claim the household deduction for a marble worktop?

You can claim the kotitalousvähennys (household deduction) for the installation work. We itemise the labour share as a separate line on the invoice, and you claim the deduction yourself in OmaVero. Stone, machining and transport are not covered by the deduction. Check the current terms and maximum amounts on vero.fi before ordering.

Is marble suitable for the kitchen?

Yes, if you accept a living surface. A honed surface, sealing and the habit of wiping up spills immediately are enough for most people. If the kitchen is in heavy use and juice is spilled on the worktop daily, quartz or ceramic is more carefree — we say so plainly at the quote stage and show ceramic marble looks alongside.

Why should marble be viewed as a full slab?

Because the veining does not repeat: of two Carrara slabs, one may be calm and the other full of dark veins. A sample tells you the base shade, but not how the pattern runs across the worktop. When you view the slab in person, we mark together which part of it ends up in the most visible place.

Marble is a natural stone, which means that each stone is unique and differs in both pattern and color tone. We receive new batches of stone every month, but what we deliver to you is always cut from the same block.

Our stones meet the standards of the EU and the Swedish Stone Industry Association, and we always strive to deliver a higher quality than what is prescribed by the standards. If you wish to see more pictures of the marble’s color and pattern, you can contact us and we will arrange it.

Take care of your marble

As you have already read, marble is a slightly more sensitive stone and it is therefore necessary to take care of and care for the stone. The same applies to most natural stones. The easiest way to keep the marble looking good is to wipe up stains immediately so they don’t have time to absorb.
In addition, it is recommended to treat the surface with a care product 1-2 times per month. Through this routine, your marble will stay beautiful for a long time.
