Dekton or Silestone?

Both are carefree in everyday life, but the difference comes from where they are used. Dekton is sintered stone: it withstands a hot pan, sunlight and a sharp knife, so it suits the area next to the hob and a covered outdoor kitchen. Silestone is quartz composite — the range of shades is wider and the surface feels warmer, but heat and constant UV are not its strengths. Dekton is delivered by us from our own factory in Tallinn: the hard, thin slab requires diamond tooling, the right cutting sequence and rounded inside corners on cut-outs, so that stress does not release as a crack. The laser measurement in Finland goes straight to the CNC machine, and every slab is inspected before transport. The same team measures and installs, so the cut-outs, joints and support have been thought through before the slab leaves the factory. Which Dekton is right for you?

Dekton’s collections cover most interior styles. The Natural series imitates natural stones such as Calacatta marble and quartzite, and is the most common choice for a light kitchen. Onirika takes the marble look further: the veining is more dramatic and the shades deeper, so it suits an island that is meant to be the focus of the room. Kraftizen is a matt collection with the feel of lime plaster and handcraft, with a light liveliness in the surface — often the choice for a pared-back kitchen or bathroom. Industrial offers concrete and metal looks in shades of oxidised steel and rust; it sits alongside black cabinet doors and wood. The Solid series is uniform, single-colour surface from light to black, and is the easiest in terms of joints. Thickness is chosen by use: a thin slab suits splashbacks and cabinet doors, a thicker one worktops and outdoor kitchens. We look at samples on site, because matt Dekton looks very different in different light.

Dekton in the kitchen, bathroom and elsewhere

The kitchen worktop and island are the most common uses, and the area next to the hob is exactly where Dekton’s heat resistance pays for itself. The same slab often continues into the splashback, so the splash zone is as durable as the worktop. On a bathroom vanity top and shower wall, Dekton does not absorb water or cosmetics. Fireplace surrounds, utility rooms and covered outdoor kitchens are uses for which we do not recommend quartz, but do recommend Dekton. What makes up the price of a Dekton worktop?

The series and thickness, the dimensions and shape of the worktop, the edge profile, the number of cut-outs and the amount of installation work. Machining sintered stone takes more machine time and wears tooling more than quartz, and that shows in the total. The veined Onirika and Natural series cost more than plain Solid shades. In an outdoor kitchen a thicker slab and support structure add work. Care and durability in everyday life

Dekton needs no sealing and no special products: water and a mild detergent are enough, and stubborn stains come off with a neutral cleaner if needed. The surface withstands a hot pan, wine, lemon and ordinary household chemicals. The only point to watch is the edge: a heavy pot dropped on a sharp edge can chip a piece off. That is why the edges are rounded or bevelled at the factory. You will find instructions on the maintenance and cleaning page.

How quickly is a Dekton worktop installed?

Delivery and installation in Finland — 10 working days from measurement. Installation of an outdoor kitchen is agreed according to the weather; indoors the schedule does not depend on the season. The installation date is fixed at the measurement, and we tell you what needs to be ready on site: carcasses fixed and levelled, sink and hob known.

Can I claim the household deduction for installing a Dekton worktop?

You can claim the kotitalousvähennys (household deduction) for the installation work. We itemise the labour share as a separate line on the invoice, and you claim the deduction in OmaVero. Can a hot pan be set down on Dekton?

Yes. Sintered stone contains no resin, so a hot pan leaves no mark and does not change the shade. The same applies to oven trays and barbecue tools in an outdoor kitchen. We still recommend avoiding sudden thermal shock on a frozen outdoor worktop and making sure a heavy pot does not drop onto the edge.

Why is a Dekton edge always machined?

A thin, hard slab is most vulnerable precisely at the edge and the corners of cut-outs. CNC machining produces an even bevel and rounded inside corners that distribute stress evenly. In a hand-ground edge, micro-chips easily remain invisible and open up in use. That is why we make the edges and cut-outs at the factory, not on site.
