You choose the slab, we machine it

Granite is natural stone, and every slab is different: the size of the crystals, the depth of the shade and the direction of the veins vary within the same name. That is why we do not sell granite from a sample. We hold 100+ stone materials in stock, and you can come and view the granites as full slabs before machining. Once the slab is chosen, we mark the cutting lines on it digitally: which part of the slab ends up on the island, where the joint falls and how the vein continues from one worktop to the next.

Our measurer visits the site in Finland with a laser, the dimensions go to the CNC machine at our factory in Tallinn, and the same team installs the worktop. Over more than 20 years and 13,000+ projects we have machined almost every type of granite sold in the Nordic countries, so we know which stone chips at the edge and which carries a narrow overhang without support. We seal the surface at the factory before installation, and no retailer’s margin is added to the price.

Which granite is right for you?

Granites fall roughly into three shade groups. Black granites are the most requested: a uniform black calms a light kitchen and visibly stands up to wear, and brushed, i.e. leathered, black hides fingerprints better than polished. Grey granites — fine-grained Nordic stones and silver-grey imported stones — sit well alongside oak and concrete and hide crumbs in their pattern. Light and reddish granites, with brown, cream and red crystals, work with wooden furniture and warm tones.

The surface finish changes the look as much as the shade does. A polished surface deepens the colour and is the easiest to wipe; a brushed or honed surface is matt and feels soft to the touch, but needs more careful sealing. With patterned granite we look at the direction of the vein and where the joints are placed at the measurement, so that the pattern continues from the island to the worktop.

Granite in the kitchen, bathroom and elsewhere

The kitchen worktop and island are granite’s most common use: the stone withstands a hot pan, knife marks and years of use. In the bathroom, granite suits a vanity top and floor once the surface is sealed. Outdoor kitchens, terrace tops and barbecue areas are natural for granite, as frost and sun do not fade the stone. What makes up the price of a granite worktop?

The price depends on the type of stone and its availability, the slab thickness, the square metres and shape of the worktop, the edge profile, the cut-outs and the amount of installation work. Common black and grey granites are more moderate than rare imported stones; the surface finish and a thick front edge add machining time. You get a fixed price after the measurement, once the slab is chosen and the joints planned. Ordered directly from our factory, the whole package is typically 20–40 % cheaper than through a retailer.

Care and durability in everyday life

Granite is hard but porous. We seal the surface at installation, and the treatment is renewed every few years — test the need by dripping water on the surface: if it soaks in rather than beading, it is time to reseal. Water and a mild detergent are enough for daily wiping; avoid acidic and strongly alkaline cleaners, which wear down the sealer. Oil and wine splashes are wiped up the same day. How quickly is a granite worktop ready?

Delivery and installation in Finland — 10 working days from measurement. One person is responsible for the schedule from slab selection to installation. At the measurement we tell you the installation date and what needs to be ready on site; removal of the old worktop and appliance connections are available from us as separately priced services.

Can I claim the household deduction for a granite worktop?

You can claim the kotitalousvähennys (household deduction) for the installation work. We itemise the labour share as a separate line on the invoice, and you claim the deduction in OmaVero. The share for stone, machining and transport is not covered by the deduction. Check the current terms and maximum amounts on vero.fi before ordering.

Does granite withstand heat and knife marks?

Yes. Granite is crystalline stone that tolerates a hot pan and ordinary knife use without marks. We still recommend a chopping board — not for the stone, but for the knife blade. The most sensitive point is the porosity of an unsealed surface: oil can darken light granite if the treatment has been allowed to wear.

Why should you come and see the slab yourself?

Because two granite slabs with the same name can differ clearly in shade and pattern. A sample shows the colour, but not the rhythm of the veins or the natural fill points in the stone. When you choose the slab in person, we mark on it together which part ends up in the most visible place, i.e. the top of the island.

The pattern and colour of the granite varies

Our pictures are examples. As granite is a natural stone, the colour and pattern of the stone may differ from the picture. Each stone is unique and cut from a large block of stone with dimensions of 3000–3200 mm × 1450–1900 mm. Every month, a brand-new batch of granite and marble arrives at our factory, with unique colours and patterns. Differences between the different stone sections are most evident on light and grooved stones. Darker stones with an even pattern are more similar to each other.
